On this weekend’s Scarlet Letter study guides, one of the words is “listlissness”. Could this perhaps be “listlessness”?
[Reply to comment]
I don’t know I’ve checked two dictionaries so far and found nothing yet. I checked onelook.com and couldn’t find anything there either. so I guess it could be listlessness.
[Reply to comment]
I think the word is listlessness. On page 170 of the Bantam Classics version of the Scarlet Letter it says “There was a listlessness in his gait; as if he saw no reason for taking one step farther…”
By the way does anyone know the page numbers for this weeks Bedford Reader. On the calender it says the names of the stories that we are supposed to read. But when I clicked on them the question numbers did not come up. If anyone knows the questions that go along with Naylor, “The Meanings of Word” and Sowell, “Needs” please respond to this. Thanks!
[Reply to comment]
Keren, for this weekend we don’t have to do a chapter for the bedford reader… we finished those! just the scarlet letter this weekend
[Reply to comment]
i think were supposed to do chapter 10 (definition) from the bedford reader. but the vocab page on mr. e’s website isnt “clickable”..the questions are though.
[Reply to comment]
how do you get the vocab for the bedford? i cant find it.
[Reply to comment]
Just to clear it up:
Homework this weekend:
-Ch. 12 Bedford Reader Definition -NO QUESTIONS, JUST READ IT
-TSL 16-18: Study Guide on Eldridge’s webstie
-Daily Warm-up given friday
-Read Naylor’s “the meanings of a word”
[Reply to comment]
OK, has anybody found the questions for the BR story “meanings of a word?”
He usually posts them on the calendar, but now only the title of the story is there.
If anyone can clear this up, it would be appreciated.
[Reply to comment]
I’m not quite sure what questions we are supposed to do for the Bedford Reader story but I find it pretty funny how so many AP kids, like myself, are so worried about the homework. =)
[Reply to comment]
i don’t think mr. e has posted the questions for meaning of a word yet everyone maybe we are just supposed to read it and thats it
[Reply to comment]
You guys are awesome! I can’t take a day off and you’re all up in my business with what questions and what to read!
Actually I kinda like it. I hope you’re liking at least some of the stuff that we’re doing.
I will post the HW for this week tonight. I feel much more confident about it as I met with Ms. Brosius and Ms. Erice in order to plan our future torture sessions!
At least enjoy a holiday, and read your outside reading book!
[Reply to comment]
Ch 12 BR Q’s?
[Reply to comment]
I didn’t find a quiz on Naylor’s reading on the bedford reader site. Did anyone else?
[Reply to comment]
Danielle, there isn’t a test. Take care.
[Reply to comment]
does anyone know which question on language we have to do for sowell tonight…. and what is the intro to the virtue essay?
[Reply to comment]
Online Quiz, Journal Response, QoM 1, 3; QoW 1, 3, 4; QoL, that’s for Sowell. It’s on the calendar.
[Reply to comment]
For the book Review the dialetical journal, can we not fold the paper down the middle and just list the quote and then write the response or do we have to fold it?
[Reply to comment]
Folding is not necessary, Danielle. It’s just a convenient way to divide your paper. I would like it formatted in 2 columns, fold or no fold.
[Reply to comment]
Oh nozorz! Will there be study guides for TSL Chapters 19 – 21?
[Reply to comment]
Indeed, let me find them. I have them in my bag of torture devices.
[Reply to comment]
Here it is: http://mreldridge.net/Documents/TSL_chs_19-21.pdf
[Reply to comment]
Thank you. It hurts already (just kidding it doesn’t look that bad).
[Reply to comment]
Not that I’m complaining, but neither the link on here nor on the other website is working for me. It says the file is damaged.
Oh well, guess we’ll just not have to do it and not take the quiz this week.
[Reply to comment]
kolkin i couldn’t open up the tsl vocab/questions either
[Reply to comment]
I clicked on it and right-clicked and downloaded it and both worked. So my suggestion, if you’re still having difficulty, is to ask a friend who successfully opened it to mail it over, or email me and request it.
[Reply to comment]
The link is working.
*confirmed by Puddler as of now.
[Reply to comment]
The study guide asks what Pearl symbolizes to Dimmesdale and Hester. I think she symbolizes truth, because she is always very honest and we can always depend on her to mirror what we think of the characters. I’m not too sure about that, though…
[Reply to comment]
Hint: What does Pearl physically represent?
[Reply to comment]
Do we not have to take a quiz for the “Bedford Reader” tonight? I do not see a quiz on the website
[Reply to comment]
yeah, we dont have to take the quiz
[Reply to comment]
Which questions for Wenke do we have to do for QOL because there aren’t any listed, does that mean all of them? And the same for Buckley, tomorrow night’s homework, it doesn’t have any numbers listed after QOM.
[Reply to comment]
Monsieur Egdirdle.
The Bedford Reader link dies quite often for me.
The question here is: is it just me or is this common.
Thanks.
[Reply to comment]
anyone know where we get the transcendalism worksheet?
[Reply to comment]
Monsieur Guo,
I too, have difficulties with the Bedford Reader website.
For many of the later quizzes, it kinda freezes up.
And then a page comes up with question marks all over it asking if I want to retake the test, even though I just took it.
It’s somewhat frustrating.
[Reply to comment]
does anyone know when the exact due date of the virtue essay is?
[Reply to comment]
does anyone know when the exact due date of the virtue essay is?
[Reply to comment]
I don’t think it’s been assigned yet. Or maybe, it’s just wistful thinking. Either way, it’s not due anytime soon, meaning we have at least a couple of weeks.
[Reply to comment]
thanks sean!
[Reply to comment]
is adage-maxim two different tropes because on a website they’re listed separately…
[Reply to comment]
so are we suppose to reread the 1st part in emerson’s self-reliance tonight like Mr E told 4th period or are we suppose to do part 2?
[Reply to comment]
part 2. at least for period 5
[Reply to comment]
oo ok thanks alex.
[Reply to comment]
bleeehhhh!
when exactly is the virtue essay due?
[Reply to comment]
During Period 4 Egdirdle told us it is due on Friday the 14.
[Reply to comment]
Noooooo
Ethan I told you not to say anything like 10 minutes ago
[Reply to comment]
Ethan,
Are you sure that he said Friday the 14th because today is the 14th of December and in Janurary the 14th is a wednesday.
[Reply to comment]
My bad Alex…I only got till Tuesday so stop complaining.
Anywayz…Yeah its Friday the 19th, I was looking at today’s date when I typed the previous comment.
[Reply to comment]
Can somebody please explain to me step five of the virtue essay? Thank youu
[Reply to comment]
When is the virtue essay and the scarlet letter essay due?
[Reply to comment]
virtue essay is due the 12th and the scarlet letter essay the 16th
[Reply to comment]
I thought that the virtue essay was due on the 9th?
[Reply to comment]
I don’t see any due date for virtue essay. The 12th would be convenient though.
[Reply to comment]
So is it tomorrow or monday?
[Reply to comment]
@Mr. Eldridge, are you going to be here on MLK day conferencing with people about their book reviews? If you are, what hours are you going to be here? I ask this question because I signed up on MLK day not knowing it was MLK day because I saw that only one person signed up on Monday, giving me more time to conference. LIttle did I know that there was a good reason for the dearth of people conferencing on Monday. Also, do you think that the great man’s memory should be honored by sitting idly at home procrastinating and kvetching about the amount of homework we haven’t done, all the while having a pre-inauguration soirée, or should it be honored by going to school and discussing our books like industrious little scholars?
[Reply to comment]
Honestly, @Dylan, with all due respect, I don’t care how you spend your MLK day. I will be grading and then probably grading some more. I vow to be caught up… I just don’t want it to kill me.
If your book review is complete, I suggest a soiree. That is why we work so hard to get things done on time. (I never studied during finals week in college b/c I worked so hard at keeping up during the class… that is, once I learned how to do it.)
Also, can you email me your TSL essay? Thanks.
[Reply to comment]
By any chance does anyone know what EAA, chs. are. On the calender it says that we are supposed to begin reading them.
[Reply to comment]
EAA= Everything’s an Argument, we got it in the beginning of the year. But I didn’t know anything about beginning to read it yet.
[Reply to comment]
i dont have an EAA or EEA or whatever its called… how do i get 1??? whut are we supposed to do with it anyway???
[Reply to comment]
I’m pretty sure it’s “Everything’s An Argument” but he never told our class to read it or anything.
[Reply to comment]
WHOAWHOAWEEWHOA!?
EEA?! Reading?!
I thought Mr. E said that we might not even get to that this year, and now it’s become some sort of priority?
I am afraid.
[Reply to comment]
It’s on the calendar. Read it. It’s not hard. We will use the ideas to analyze some of the speeches in HAMLET.
And you get it from the library or Amazon.com.
[Reply to comment]
how do we do the venn diagrams for the syllogism?
[Reply to comment]
i don’t know really. i ran into the same problem. then tried to do tomorrow’s homework and ran into it again. too bad.
[Reply to comment]
ummmmmm, ok.
since our homework is to write the paragraphs about the green packet passages and our responses are not being collected but we review the passages in class……. should we revise the original writings or not?
[Reply to comment]
Mr. Eldridge Reply:
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:55 pm
@CALLIE Aaker, It will be collected in the end. Will your answers be better if you revise? Will you learn more? Will you retain more?
These are the questions you should ask if you don’t know whether to do something or not.
[Reply to comment]
is the proposal presentation this friday a homework assignment or something we’re doing in class??
[Reply to comment]
o and were we supposed to do another “ethos or pathos?” thing from the green packet?
[Reply to comment]
I’m confused
… What exactly is due this friday involving the 75 points assignment? aka; argumentative research paper. Is it just step 1 (which includes; 1.reader response journal, 2.identifying arguments, 3.style glossary, and 4.research questions) or is it everything: step 1 compose a research question, step 2 conduct research, step 3 make a claim and step 4 begin writing?
[Reply to comment]
Mr. Eldridge Reply:

@Sheleneee, Just page 1. Doing the whole research thing is for after the break.
[Reply to comment]
Is homework Civil Disobedience AND Gatsby Ch. 1 – 2 or just Civil Disobedience?
[Reply to comment]
[jordan's comment] + are we supposed to be working on the project essay thing???
wahh…i’m so confusssseeedddd

Mr. Eldridge Reply:

@CALLIE Aaker, Do not do anything Callie! Put down the English homework before anybody gets hurt. Okay? That’s it. Just slowly put it to the ground. That’s right. Easy to the ground. Now just turn and walk away…
[Reply to comment]
it’s so hard!
ahahahahahhaaha
jk yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Reply to comment]
Mr. Eldridge:
Should we continue reading Gatsby like the calendar says?
Or are we going to delay the book for a little bit so that we can work on our research projects?
[Reply to comment]
Mr. Eldridge Reply:
April 14th, 2009 at 4:40 am
@Henry Kim, Delay.
[Reply to comment]
When are those research projects due?
[Reply to comment]
Mr. Eldridge Reply:
April 15th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
@SHAINA DENNY!, Oh, you know, whenever
I’ll let you know soon.
[Reply to comment]
Does anyone know if we are supposed to buy Grendel?
And do we just read the Great Gatsby every night or are there questions as well?
[Reply to comment]
Grendel is optional. I suggest it, but you don’t have to.
Just read Gatsby. A sophisticated class discussion should do; take notes on these discussions.

Also I would read the notes on Mr. Eldridge’s website for each chapter. They will provide key cultural background and it will ensure that you are picking up on the right things.
