Not only is it a separate service dedicated solely to a redundant function that is already in widespread use, it somehow manages to keep on growing. My only theory is that all the discussion about how bad Twitter is only drives more people to the website out of sheer curiosity, thereby making it more popular and spawning even more criticism of how pointless it is. So, like the typical gossip magazine fodder (or Myspace), Twitter will only go away once everyone stops talking about it.
