The year book is coming tomorrow to present stuff to us about joining…so anyone who has yearbook-type talents, pay attention.
We are hopefully going on Friday to get The Great Gatsby, but Mr. E. recommends getting your own as well to write in and other things like that.
Psychology Stuff From Yesterday
Sean is good at solipsism-only your own mind exists, you don’t know what’s real or isn’t real.
Epistemology applies here
Do you really see anything??
Something about moons and suns, I didn’t really understand because everyone was having their own convos. But red => white and big => small.
Beauty-different people have different perceptions of beauty-Michelle E
Sean says Fibonacci’s sequence is beautiful in a mathematical way, Mr. E thinks its just annoying
Think of a tree—you can’t. it must be a specific kind-must be an oak or a fur or something similar
What makes a tree a tree??
Olivia drew a tree on the board but Mr. E labeled it as “not a tree” because it is not a tree, it is a “kindergarten, simplified, bush on a trunk tree”
Existence:
Space-
Time-
Particular things:
Fir trees
Oak trees
Spruce trees
Etc..
All the above things share characteristics-leaves, bark, branches, etc.
Beautiful things:
Sunsets
Roses
Mozart music
Melanie
Miss. California
Waterfalls
Fiji
Rainbows
The above things are only representations of beauty, not beauty itself.
Super (abstract)-existence:
According to Plato, why would you need copies (oak, spruce, waterfalls) if you can have the original in your mind (a tree, beauty).
Tree, beauty, and freedom are all seen with intellectual vision in “super-existence world”.
We’ve only ever experienced lower, “broken”, examples, but understand the “super-existence original.”
Sorry it took me so long everyone, I thought it sent, but then it got jammed in my outbox instead…my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused for you.
Hello Period 5
Aren’t you all happy that APs are finally over? (It should be a rhetorical question, for most of you.)
Anyways, today began with a brief review of the philosophy assignment that we did in the computer lab a few days ago.
Mr. Eldridge told us that we should go over them one more day to make it easier for other people to understand the concept(s).
We should also rid of any unnecessary grammatical errors in our papers.
Then, Shiela from Yearbook and this other girl from the yearbook clan came to the classroom to try and persuade us to join yearbook.
Shiela presented some information about the yearbook class via powerpoint.
She finished and the class politely applauded.
Mr. Eldridge proceeded to ask the class why we applauded, and Ryan Cady responded with “We were raised good.”
With some time remaining in the period, we watched another “dream.”
It was titled “Crows” and it followed a man’s journey through Van Gogh’s paintings.
Somewhat eerie, but rather thought-provoking.
Then the bell rang, and class was dismissed.
