Is anyone else sad that Freakonomics only comes in a thirty dollar hard-cover editioin? I mean sure its a great book but i find it hard to beleive it’s worth 30 dollars. Only Harry Potter is worth that much. Or the bible.

@TrIsTaN, Read it with gloves on, take notes, and return it. That’s what I’m doing…maybe minus the gloves. And the bible is not worth 30 dollars…I got a pocket one for free from the old guy in the leather jacket who hands them out at the corner by the school.

The Hawaiian Pigeon Bible is totally worth $30 bro.
(I find it funny that the anti-spam word I had to enter in for this comment was “spamlles3″… like SPAM-WOW)

I must agree, the pidgin bible is totally worth $30, brah. =) It’s surprising, though, that people back there actually do speak like that. Many places, people talk with an accent or in a certain dialect, but can write in comprehendable English, but not in Hawai’i. Many actually write in the exact mocking of how they speak which, to most non-islanders, comes out as a jumble of mispelled, foreign, and made-up words. This conglomerate of languages has lead to very low overall testing scores in the area of English and Reading and prevents students from entering one of the more exclusive schools in Hawai’i, such as Obama’s Punahou. It’s quite disappointing as the school was originally founded to accomodate anyone seeking knowledge, as way back in the mid 1800s the ancient Hawaiians had an insatiable appetite for learning, whether it be math, reading, or the English language itself. Some of the royalty studied to such an extent that they were able to fluently speak English in less than a month.

The book you all want is the 25th Anniversary Edition of Peppo’s Pidgin to da Max. It’s a lovely primer on Pidgin–it’s best piece of advice: If you’re a Haole, don’t try to speak Pidgin!
