Period 4

Howdy do, period four.
First the day started of as Trisha reminded me I have to do the scribe. She also says hi :) .
Then we were handed a packet of 17th century Devotional Literature accompanied by “ugh”s and screams of horror.
Next, someone asked if we had to do do a timed write- NOPE, accompanied by cheers and tears of joy.
Eventually, we delved into the King James’ Version of the bible. Apparently, it’s the most known (or prestigious) version of the bible where all of the quotes come from.
Onward, we looked at The Gospel According to St. Matthew, which is due, along with its questions, on Monday, January 5th, the day after winter break.
Soon, we played a short group word game, fun for some, disappointing to others :( , but an overall wholesome learning experience it was.
As time passed, Mr. Eldridge held a TSL Book Check and we compared Self-Reliance with TSL and discussed [14] in SR along with Hester and law.
Within a few minutes, we were told to consider what the Scarlet Letter is and what its goals are.
Finally, we glanced at the Virtue Essay, learning to limit our virtue, i.e. too much sacrifice is just bad, too much compassion lets you be used, etc.

Period 5

Sorry it’s late…)

Gadzooks!

It’s truly a Christmas miracle. For today, although it was a friday, there was no in class essay to write.

Instead, we discussed the Scarlet Letter (even more in depth than before). Apparently, none of us really understood the ending.

Scarlet Letter Abridged:

Hester: But, Dimmesdale!
Dimmesdale: Shut up, woman! I need to talk about God!

That’s pretty much the way that it went. Also, although Hawthorne and Emerson were very close friends, Hawthorne believed that any civilized law is better than no law at all, directly contradicting Emerson’s beliefs that Nature is the way to get close to God.

Then, we got to the dreaded “Virtue Essay.” You all better be on Step 4 or 5…or else. Alex Dessouky had a miniature panic attack, demanding that Mr. Eldridge give us a due date.

Also, for our winter break homework, we received a packet of devotional literature.

Biblicious!

Anyway, enjoy your weekend and have a Merry Christmas!
(No, I won’t say “Happy Holidays!” If you celebrate something else, have fun with it. Christmas>other holidays.)

Byah!
