It was Hatly Wednesday today and 3 people participated and Rini was the only one with Suspenders because it was…oh, “I’m overall the drugs” day today.

Class started and we all quickly handed out the handouts when Eldridge asked why we weren’t doing so already. While we were doing that he talked about how the Progressive story is now up. He reminded us that he wants us to concentrate on imagery and he doesn’t want us to actually tell readers what is going on, but to describe things so that the reader can decide what the actions of the character mean for themselves (this is what the best writers do). Interior monologue is a concept that would be good to try as well.

After that we went over/ did Imagery #7 and then Eldridge went off topic again. This time it was how morning practices are a good thing and how they calm you down for the rest of the day. But now if you’re all jittery and antsy they just say, “here, have a pill so that you can be happy and calm.” Not that I’d actually enjoy getting up that early every day, but I like morning practices. Oh, that conversation came from a comment that people are supposed to happy all of the time. This came from Imagery #7 when none of us could come up with any really good moments where it had been completely silent. Eldridge mentioned going to Arizona deserts and it was so quiet that you should hear the blood moving in your own head. Our lives have become filled with almost constant noise.

Also, experiments are why kids like science.

You’re going to die with a to do list, sorry, that’s how it is.

Our world is a prison if you really think about it, we’re all pretty much stuck here, unless you go off into space, but that’s besides the point. Erica said she just glad we don’t all wear matching outfits like people in “real” prison.

Ryan Cady for some reason attacked Alex Dessouky (I don’t have time to look up how to spell that, sorry) with a pillow (they were on the couch once again)

Finally, we went over the Scarlet Letter quizzes and really quickly the pop quizzes that we took with the sub. If your responses weren’t 3-5 sentences long you didn’t get credit.

Don’t forget there’s homework: Journal to Essay due on Friday, and the Bedford Reader reading on Doublespeak.

  1. It was fun going off topic today. It was like being a sub for about 15 min. Ahhh, the old days. Good times.

  2. If you think about it there is never an experience where its completely silent

it gets quiet enough to hear your own blood but thats probably as close as it gets

  3. Going off topic was very informational today. It was interesting and the sub went off topic about Vietnam, also informative and interesting, but way off topic-almost didn’t relate to anything we were doing that I can remember, I think it was his introduction about himself. No, but going off topic is fun.

I agree with Jay though, it’s almost never silent in today’s world and that’s really kind of wierd. Sometimes I cannot fall alseep without listening to music, there’s just too much that I’m thinking about. I think you can make it feel completley quiet. When I read sometimes I become so absorbed that I have no idea what is going on around me. I can only hear/see what’s going on in the book. That’s not really silence, I guess, but that’s probably the closest I’ve come without going under the ocean. It’s really quiet deep underwater- well, in a pool it’s not because you can hear people or the pool filter, but you should get the idea.
