Daily Scribe Tuesday October 28, 2008 – Period 4
Wednesday, November 28, 2008.
Yesterday was band it to drugs day.
Today was crazy sock day, I’m not sure what the saying was, “sock it to drugs” maybe? I’m not sure.
Tomorrow is overall the drugs day (suspenders and overalls). Time to pull out the old Tom Sawyer play stuff?
Friday is halloween! Costume day!
I have to say, this week’s anti-drug things aren’t very fun. I liked the crazy hair day and when all of the Punjabi kids would wear tie-dye turbans, hahaha! Band it to drugs day wasn’t too bad, although all of the kind of emo kids have their wristbands (sorry Ryan Cady) already, so it wasn’t that different. But we all got our red wristbands. I swear that these things have a bunch of string in them, one time i got this nick in it and I spent about a whole period in class last year just like pulling it out line by line after drug week was over.
Anyways, we began the period just sitting outside waiting for someone to come open the door. We were about to organize a maze for the freshmen to walk through to get to Mrs. Smith’s class, but finally, Mr. Petrick (my sub for computer science the period before also!) came and introduced himself as we all got seated.
He gave us the normal sub usual- tells us how long he used to teach: taught at losal in 1974, probably taught our grandparents, and more about his teaching here.
Then, he moved to the later phase of the sub introduction- a really cool event. He taught at the “Harvard of Vietnam” for a while and told us a lot about Vietnam. Apparently, everyone there is fairly poor and the currency there, dong, is very inflated, ~16000 dong to 1 USD. It takes about 2.5 years of working to buy a motor scooter from China, and that’s what they use there because cars are too expensive. Anyways, he said that even though we “bombed the hell out of them” it was still a pretty cool place to go and visit.
Then, he told us the days plan- Imagery worksheet, and then a pop quiz. That kind of ruined the pop in the quiz and had us freaking out the whole period.
After a short while of panic, we moved onto our Imagery 6 worksheet. It was about visual images regarding water inside of a gourd. A gourd, according to Mr. Petrick, is a dried up squash shaped up to look like a large vase. They are used for either carrying goods or percussion. Andrew says gourds are Korean things and they’re in all of the Korean tales, but I can’t take him seriously anymore after he told me that he ate dog.
Once we finished the sheet, Mr. Petrick recited a poem to us and asked us more about imagery. It was kind of random, but I definitely think he was nicer than our other sub this week. She made us put our water bottles away … come on! =(
Next came the pop quiz. It wasn’t too bad if you’ve kept up on your reading. That took us to the end of the period and a little bit after.
Yeah, that was pretty much it for today.
Oh, and Tristan and Tricia say hello.

to be cool and insert a random comment/advise, I guess I’ll put what I’ve gotten on my second most recent fortune cookie fortune- “Talents that are not shared are not talents.”
My last one was “Your efforts are budding, results will appear soon” haha, I hate the vagueness of the fortunes, because they could just apply to, like, I did my homework so I got my points. But then it could mean that by doing my homework I do well on my tests and by doing well on my tests I do well in life. But tests =/= life, so there’s a discontinuity (math
!) in there somewhere.

Umm, Nadir, I think you need some more sleep, man. I mean did you check the date before you sent this over?

Your first fortune, Nadir, is for all those Christians out there–hey Christians dig on Chinese food, too! It’s a reference to the “Parable of the Talents.” It’s a powerful story and you can read more about it here at the very fancily named Bible.org.

no way
?
well, I’m never really sure about week days.
But I have the date on my watch, so at least I got that right
I was wondering why it didn’t do the autocreate date thing on word when I put in Wednesday.
Oh well. I’m getting a decent amount of sleep though, I usually go to bed ~10/11ish and wake up at like 7:10 and rush to school, but I still have no idea why I’m tired if i get 9~ hours of sleep
.

For some reason, i also have the same problem. I get 8+ hours of sleep every day but i am pooped by third period.

Seriously, I am always tired too! I actually don’t get enough sleep though…so I think that’s why. But this makes me wonder…is there some reason why when someone gets more than their normal amount of sleep, they are still if not more, tired than before? My guess is it has to do with some sort of a subconscious addiction…
Hahaha I love fortune cookies! One time, my brother got a fortune from a cookie that said, “It’s time to embrace your feminine side.” I thought it was hilarious but he wasn’t too pleased.
I’m still waiting to find a fortune cookie that says, “Help, I’m being held captive in a Chinese fortune cookie factory”

I think one day in class we should have nap time! I call the coach!! haha
I had a fortune cookie today…isn’t that weird? but i can’t remember what it said, something like i will achieve all of my goals…that would be nice.
and in regards to the pop quiz, unfair on the amount of time, but if anyone noticed all of the questions were taken from our study guide, so if you didn’t the questions you had the answers.
Nadir always has the longest scribes! How does he do it? My fingers start to hurt after typing too much! Anyways, have a good rest of the week guys.

Actually, the ancient Hawaiians ate dog on a normal basis as the Koreans did. It was considered a delicacy and was a staple in the diet of royalty. The dog was first killed, then its hair singed off and finally chopped into tiny pieces which were wrapped in banana or ti leaves. These packages were then placed in an underground oven known as an imu. Wow…that was pretty gruesome.
Well, as long as I’m on the subject of Hawai’i, they used to use gourds as a percussion instrument and still do. I’ve seen some that are like almost three feet tall. Yeah SPAM!

Oh my gosh! I got the same fortune as your brother Tera-Lynn! It told me to embrace my feminine side also but I am not really sure how I can do that anymore than I already do haha.
And about the sleep subject, I am always tired no matter how much sleep I get. Over the summer I had 12 hours of sleep and was still tired when I woke up! During the week I get a little under 8 hours per night and I am still wanting a nap by third period (but maybe that is because reading books in Spanish is the biggest waste of time ever). Anyways, I just wish we had more time to sleep. There would be less angry, crazy AP kids.
