Daily Scribe 9/24/2008 – Period 5
Today started like any other Hatly Wednesday in Mr. Eldridge’s favorite class, period five. For those of you that do not know, Hatly Wednesday is the tradition (I want to say inspired by the ancient Romans but I cannot be sure) of wearing a hat every Wednesday–not to be confused with Moccasin Monday or Funny Friday. Kolkin wore a red Angel’s hat, Ryan a Bob Marley-ish hat, and Chris a hat made out of duct tape. First we started off by working on our imagery handouts. Later, Mr. Eldridge commented on how he was confused about Ryan Cady’s inside joke about dinitrogen pentoxide. This led to talking about some of the crazy comments on our English blog and how the etymology of school ironically means leisure. Out of the complete blue, Calliewog shouted Bob Saget! (Possibly Turrets) Finally, after debating for five minutes what the directions actually meant on page 185 of The Bedford Reader, everyone finally agreed. No one understood Sarah Vowell’s “funny” hyperboles on the board which caused Eldridge much annoyance. Ending our period, Mr. Eldridge assigned group questions for tomorrow. ¡Adios Amigos!

The ancient Romans? How, I’m curious?
And the part about the etymology of school being leisure might be true for some, but it’s not true for AP students who have a lot of homework. It’s a brain workout.

Hey Carfi!
I was just wondering what we are suppose to wear on “funny fridays”? And does Callie really have Turrets?
[Reply to comment]
If Callie had turrets, Ryan Cady would have Stephan King OCD.
Oh wait.. I forgot. He already does.

fridays also involve minor super heroes. space man spiff (ryan), mini miitia man (rini), igloo man(tyler) etc

Might this certain “S” and “E” happen to be Jeven Stones and Ent Breldridge? Just a guess.
By the way, I don’t smell whatever is eminating off of Mr. E’s walls.

Ethan, I think you commented on the wrong blog. Just to be clear, Calliewog doesn’t really have Turrets but Ryan does have Stephen King OCD. And you don’t wear anything special for funny friday, you just tell jokes, duh.

Hello all!
Yeah so here’s the deal:
I started these way back in the freshman year (I am an ancient Roman) in an attempt to make sure that each potentially mundane week had at least a little bit of colour to it. It’s the little things that count, and the details can make all the difference!
Moccasin Monday – Wear moccasins!
Hatly Wednesday – wear a cool hat!
Funny Friday – come prepared with a joke or other comical thing and share it!
P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were removed.

Ahem…
so we’re not doing Ridiculous Rursday, then?
I was looking forward to it..

Same as yesterday.
I’ll update when someone makes points.

Oh, Ethan, you and your poor reading skills.
Ryan Cady…I’m not sure anyone is counting your tally.

Dear everyone,
It is “Tourette’s,” not “Turrets.”
I just thought you all should know in case you try to google it to see if Callie actually has the disease or not.

And for further research, I suggest viewing “tourettes guy.” You will understand where Bob Saget came from.

I’m sorry alex. My computer was messed up and sent the same post to multiple areas.

Helloooooooooo!
Just to inform everyone who was wondering, I do not have Tourrette’s… DUH!
That was simply a humorous exclamation [because somebody in my foxy grandpa group got the wrong warm-up worksheet, which I did instead of the worksheet the class was supposed to do...]
so yeah.
k bye – Callie
BOB SAGETT!
