Daily Scribe 9/23/2008 – Period 4
Posted on September 23rd, 2008 by Mr. Eldridge
Okay, so I was still unsure of what exactly to say in these things but here it goes:
hey fourth period.
so this is the gist of what went down in english today:
1- we did the imagery worksheet and learned to use rhythm in our writing and to pay attention to word choice in order to understand tone and what not. then stephen jones dominated the “apply” section of the thing. and the girl who always eats carrots was once again eating carrots. and ed was experience an insane episode of ADHD and tristan was talking a lot. that sums it up.
2- mr. eldridge said that we have to comment on the website by 11:59 on friday night. and would negotiate commenting more or less weekly or something.. i dunno.
3- dont use your cell phones in class. especially when you are right in front of mr. eldridge. melanie.
4- we read the abstract/concrete and general/specific worksheet. i believe he said that is due by thursday. i think.
5- we also discussed our class’s immaturity, despite its intellect.

Alright, Nicolette,
What about the handy little graph I drew that described the “Law of Diminishing Returns”? If that’s not useful, I don’t know what is!
And I also thought the little piece about concrete and specific language was just incredibly well-written–didn’t you? I mean that writer must be a famous author or something?

As Nicolette mentioned, at some points our class does have pretty high immaturity levels. However, I think that our class’s unique qualities are what makes period 4 so educational as well as fun. How else will be able to remember so many different (but amazing) aspects of English. In our class, its so much easier to relate to the lessons we’ve previously done, whether it’s thanks to Melanie & Tricia’s conversations about raping each mother, Mr. Eldridge’s weird story about the woman scratching herself, or even Ed filling up his huge water bottle every day. For example, today, Mr. Eldridge’s lecture about getting your fever so high that your sweats will be used for what they were made for-sweating out that fever, which will eventually cure you. But if your temperature is too high, it may kill you. So random, but it completely made me remember the worksheet for some reason.
So, my point is that our class’s random jokes and off-topics are what help me remember so much that goes on in class and make it that much funner.

My name is spelled with a “v”, thank you.
But no worries.

Haha I think that the concrete and specific language worksheet was actually really good. Usually things those worksheets are really boring and I don’t learn anything because I zone out. But this one was actually funny and had humor. If more of our worksheets had humor, I think more people would pay attention. But that’s just me :]
