Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! [even though it technically isn't.=)]

  • Eldridge was early! Yay!

  • Michael and Brandon “are freakin’ leprechauns”-Liz C.

  • Work was passed back to everyone

  • It is not St. Patrick’s Day today because “The Catholic Church in England and Wales says St Patrick’s Day is simply not on the calendar of feast days this year. This week is known as Holy Week in the church and takes precedence over all saint’s days. “-BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7300466.stm)

    • In the past, many battles were fought due to religious reasons (everything matters in a religious war)….and people ask why we’re at war all the time…i wonder why….=(

  • We completed Detail #17…a passage from The Great Gatsby…ugh…1st semester memories….

  • Liz C. and Liz P. were talking about 30 Days of Night (you should watch it apparently)

  • Also, watch Across the Universe…what is that movie even about? (”It’s just beautiful”-Erika)

  • A lot of people are failing the class right now…basically, do your work…again…

  • REMEMBER: Virtue #4 due on Thurs.; Ethos/Pathos/Logos Packet due Thurs as well

  • We’ll begin to work in a high intensity environment after Spring Break…to get prepared for our AP Test (hope all of you bought your AP tickets); work should not be a work of art, but practice (fundamentals)

  • Eldridge handed out the AP English Language/Composition 2006 Scoring Essays (HW FOR TONIGHT: to read the 3 essays to compare tomorrow with our own that we wrote last Friday)

  • There is no space in our mind/head: there is only tissue

    • Cats do not think at all! (haha, that made me laugh)

    • Eldridge and Andre had a debate about whether parrots and dogs do things because of their instincts or because they are actually thinking….hmmm…(Andrea was keeping a tally of who was winning…Eldridge and Andre tied…)

  • Ethos and Ethics are completely different terms

  • Ethical Appeal

    • Benevolence/Good Will

    • Sound Sense

    • High moral character

      • These are the core elements of a person (theory by Aristotle)

      • Usually we don’t like someone who lacks one of these three core elements

    • Ennui-lethargy, apathy, comfortable, lavishing (i.e. Gatsby and Daisy or like when you feel during the summer)

    • Most important thing in any rhetoric moment=audience

    • “On Bulls***”-the theory of bs…in its purist form (if there is one)…not about meaning but about how the audience sees the speaker or writer…to use words in order to look as if you know what you are doing or saying

      • Reputation can be positive or negative…

    • When someone lies to you, and you listen to him but don’t take his advice, you keep sound sense because you’re nice enough to listen to his “opinions” but not stupid enough to take his word.

  • We read Benjamin Franklin’s Speech (pg. 73-74)

    • The first major word he uses is “reluctance”; makes himself seen as someone who is sacrificing a lot for the good of others

    • People want someone who doesn’t want to be in office, because then he is not ambitious; those that are assigned to a task do the task right because it is the right thing to do; whereas those that long for the position take advantage of their leadership, and fail to aid others or make the right choice

    • Franklin is open minded…

Do your work.

Be on time..

And have fun…

  1. What is the Science Writing all about? What do we have to look for regarding the Science Writing Project in Mr. Eldridge’s Homepage?
