Today in class:

**Bell rang- everyone was extremely excited about Halloween, and talked about their plans for the evening

-weather was very foggy, it set a very creepy Halloween tone

**Imagery worksheet- excerpt from Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad

-it compared and contrasted images of the sea and land

-Joseph Conrad: was originally Polish, English was his third language, he also spoke German

**We discussed the BBR and looked at graphs comparing women and men’s salaries

-analysis: dividing things up so you can understand how the whole works together

-women make less money than men as they age

-at 16 to 24- men and women are earning almost equal wages because most are earning minimum wages

-after the age of 25 women earn much less than men because they have to take care of their children

-the more educated you are the more you earn

-in today’s society if you don’t go to college, you are considered to be a failure, but that is not necessarily true, you can still earn well (if you are lucky) with a high school diploma

Our randomness in class:

**In universities up to the 1800s you learned Latin not English because it was the language of educated people

**Today was movie analysis day:

-Patricia thinks that the Blair Witch was the worst movie every made, I totally agree

-Briana thinks that the Lord of the Rings is pretty cool

**UCLA v. USC game is coming up: David and Mr. Eldridge made a bet that if USC wins Mr. E’s UCLA flag is going down for a week, and is going to be replaced with a USC flag. If UCLA wins, David will wear a UCLA shirt for a week….that’s gross!

Reminders:

**End of the quarter is on Nov. 9 so make sure you catch up on your BBR assignments

**This Friday is the last day to turn in late work

**Make sure you are reading your outside reading book

**Thanksgiving is only 24 days away!!!!

  1. just on a side note…

I hope UCLA wins just because everyone started liking USC when they won a lot. No one going crazy about them when they weren’t national champs. I guess you could say that’s how it is with most things but nonetheless, good luck Mr. E
