Scribe of the Day (9.26.07) [period 3]
hi all!
So we came into class, and on the board was a most… interesting picture! It was a contemporary painting with many abstract features. It was obscurely of a man painting, but it was so much more than that, too for one frame! The man painting had 2 right hands and one of them had 7 fingers. With those 13 fingers, it looked like the man in the painting was painting a headless woman, milking a cow…?The painting was anything but easy on the eyes and to make out the objects. It had a yellow, reddish color theme and full of chaos and energy. The edges of the painting seem to cut off the rest of the scene, perhaps because a painting isn’t enough to contain the scene.
The imagery worksheet today described a scene which had much to do with being enslaved. The scene it described was peaceful, and the sense of control was very subtle. In the last sentence of the excerpt, she said there was a smell of ‘pinks’ in the air. Smell seems to be something that ’surrounds’ you, but why of the color of pink? is there something I’m missing here?
our worksheet today was of imagery 3. We were given a peaceful excerpt, but it had a subtle hint of slavery and being controlled. No one saw it until Mr. E pointed it out. Schuyler and Tara had awesome example sentences. Keep up the good work guys!
Afterwards, we moved onto “Of Studies”. For most of us, this was probably the 2nd or 3rd read through, except this time we understood it. I hope we all learned that in order to understand something, you must read is SLOWLY to digest it, not just swallow it.
Remember critical writing is due on Monday, 2 pages single spaced. We’re all still waiting on Laura’s trope and are very excited!Back to school night was tonight. I saw many parents in the 0 period class, so I think its safe to say most of your parents came. Shame. i hate my life.
Cool facts for today:
- You can tell what is important to a culture through their language. Did you know that there are 50+ ways to say “ice” in Alaska?
- All verbs in Chinese are in the same tense. ‘Ma’ in chinese means ‘mom’, and ‘ma’ means ‘horse’. The difference cannot be determined over the computer without the correct characters. i just put it in there to try and be funny.
- Hebrew is read from right to left.
- Certain sounds in Vietnamese can only be said if you were raised to speak it. Some can’t be said by English speakers because they’ve become so accustomed to English.
Random Stuff.
- “How many A.D.D. kids does it take to screw in a light bulb?” “Lets go ride bikes!” Golly Mr. E, i’d appreciate it if u didn’t make fun of Tara…
- Mr. E stole Tara’s soul with a camera, so you might want to steer clear of her.
- Bryce got owned.
- ‘Good Cop, Bad Cop’: ‘Schuyler, Kevin’. Or ‘Kevin, Schuyler’, whoever you like better…
- Wikipedia is a trap. Even Bacon of the 17th century agrees.
Work of the Day!: Malicious

The painting at the beginning of class was pretty tricky. One thing we had to notice was that everything was cut off from the sides. We had to realize that realization of reality is quite overwhelming and you can’t just think of life perfectly drawn out. That’s why theres crazy aspects to the painting like the two right hands and the crazy painting/thought bubble.

i think its cool that lots of people will be able to read what we post here. they will be able to see what other students in another part of the world are thinking and discussing. this blog is also a place to show ones abilities while maintaining a sense of anonymousness.
i knew anthony would say something like that…
