el scribe de mi clase (9.25.0777) [period 3]
The class walked into the class and there was a picture of Vincent van Gogh. We talked about the differences between two images of him. The first, Van Gogh looks a little older, the second, he looks younger and atuned with all around him. We learned how imagery affects the emotions of the audience.

**Mr. E, at one point, ate 9,000 calories a day. Chimichangas and 2 coca-colas for SNACK! Dinner is usually chicken, steak AND rice. and then he would go eat the left-overs. And then finish it off with a quart of ice cream…good Mr. E…good.
We started to discuss the imagery and how the author “shows, not tells”. This is when someone uses auditory and sensory details to help create an image of a particular moment, as opposed to just telling us a situation.

We continued on a long tangent about The Da Vinci Code, Dante’s Inferno, and Harry Potter , and how these books make use of good and bad mimesis.
We then went on to Julie’s trope, which is “Hyperbole”. a hyperbole is an exaggeration, usually found in poetry. Ex: He explained it to her a million times!
After that, we did the “Of Studies”, by Francis Bacon. In Bacon’s paper, he discusses the purposes of “studies”. He says that studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability. In his paper he uses four of the tropes that we have studies so far this year: parallelism, antithesis, ellipsis, asyndeton. We learned that experts in study can make general counsels. Bacon tells us that we should not be constantly studying, but rather out in the world experiencing things first hand and gaining that experience.

I don’t know where else to comment so I will comment on this scribe thingy about something discussed during today’s class. I was most intrigued by the idea that knowledge is only bounded by expeience, or human needs like sleeping or eating. I completely agree with this idea because there is always an infinite amount of knowledge in the universe to be attained it is simply our human weaknesess that get in the way of our knowledge building. The only other obstacle is the “wanting” of knowledge. WE have to want to learn in order to attain knowledge and get over our prideful attitudes of acting like we know everything because as we know: We know nothing.

You got that right. For example, you can’t read (analyze) a book on nuclear fusion, and then go and stop a tactical nuclear device from destroying Valencia (well, maybe if you are Jack Bauer).
By the way, Jose, you contradict yourself in that you can’t know that we know nothing if we in fact know nothing. You are only imagining that you know nothing.
