Daily Scribe 9/24/07 (per. 3)

class took ten minutes to start as usual. during those ten minute, mr. eldridge looks at me and says, “Elisa! you’re our scribe!” or something along those terms. =\ well duh.. it was written on the board. -.-;

anyways while we were working on our imagery worksheet, ten million pages of finished and graded work was passed back.

  • imagery – all sensory details (ex. visual, olfactory, etc)

then we discussed the passage we were supposed to analyze… Mr. Eldridge got out his own copy of “the mariner and the sea”, the passage that we analyzed. it was amazing because it had pictures in it. that goes to show that no matter how old you are, picture books are the best.

as we were discussing it someone mentioned that it was a war or something, and mr. eldridge goes WHY? WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE!?!?!?!! so basically, we learned that you cannot make assumptions about things in the class. or English teachers will go ballistic. either that you have you provide evidence on which your assumptions are based.. no one could figure out why there was “blood”. who brought up blood anyways? -.-;; THERE’S NO BLOOD!

then Vijay mentions something about war, and that gave mr. eldridge a chance to rant about how you cannot have war on an abstract noun (e.g. war on terrorism). he was also very descriptive of the battlefield during war. i think he watches too many war flicks. =\

then we shared our examples of our imagery thing with our tables (well.. we did, i don’t know about other people) and the class. randy was very profane in his use of vocabulary. he called someone a bitch. im not sure if he was called the dog a bitch, or its owner a bitch. but whatever it was, mr. eldridge suddenly said bitch out loud. THAT’S PROFANITY! hahaha. haha. -.-; and then randy thought a mutt was a male dog. hahahahaha.

anyways. i think that went on to some giant digression about Romeo and Juliet and how the language used was “filthy”. none of the class understood what mr. eldridge was talking about (or was it just me…) because it was SO LONG AGO. all i remember is that one incident with the sword-fighting and Patricia (hahahahahaha..). poor Patricia…

and then we read the intro to BBR. the end.

on the board:

  • join the THS Broadcasting Quarterly
  • blog: one liners do not count as substantial (uh-oh)
  • follow directions/make connections
  • BBR: Chapter 1-4

random notes:

  • laura brought her dry brownies to class again.
  • tara’s hat does not conform to school rules. PURPLE IS NOT RED, BLACK, OR WHITE. but it looked nice on her, so meh. =]
  • randy seems to have an issue with people using the word “coat” to describe the fur of dogs.

  1. Well, Elisa, I just have fun making noise. “Ballistic” is such a strong word. And you really should remember R&J, it was only 16 months ago! Really, so long? And it’s soooo good!

And it wasn’t a digression, it was reminding all that you’ve seen the root of punctilious (punctiglio) before; therefore it shouldn’t be too foreign.

You know, I also liked my short blurb on the naming patterns in Gatsby. But maybe that’s just me. I’m into names.

And good point about the evidence. I will be making a big deal about it this year.

  2. UGH! i did not call ANYONE a bitch! a bitch is the actual term for a FEMALE DOG! the directions said to describe an ANIMAL!!! and i only thought a mutt was a male dog because of harry potter… “If theres something wrong with the bitch, then there’s something wrong with the mutt!”
